Explore The World of Mano Majra...

Section 4: Pages 116-181

The end has come to the Train to Pakistan! During these tragic and final pages of the book, many of the Muslims in Mano Majra were forced by Sikh Soldiers to evacuate in Pakistan. Many of the Muslims were forced to pack everything they owned and be ready to evacuate in a days time. However, because of limited space, Muslims were forced to bring only the things they can carry by hand. Although many survived the ride and arrived safely in Pakistan, they lost crucial things like cows, family treasures and property.

In history, there was one particular mass evacuation that was caused by a religious feud: the mass evacuation of European Jews into Nazi concentration camps.

During this time in Europe, the Jews were persecuted and discriminated for crimes they were innocent of. When the Nazi party of Germany came to rule, there was much conference on where to send the Jews. As an experiment, the Nazi party initiated Madagascar Plan, where they intended to send all the Jews to an island called Madagascar off the Eastern coast of Africa. However, after sending some Jews to the island, they realized that it would be more appropriate to make concentration camps for the Jews. All Jews in Europe were forced to bring only the things they can carry by hand and leave their belongings behind.

Like the situation in Mano Majra, many of the Jews were forced to leave their belongings to neighbors. Like the Jews during World War II, a lot of the Muslims in India were packed into tiny trains and trucks in order for the most amount of people to be transported.
