Picture
This session, the pages we had to read were from page 90 to page 116. From the beginning, the author explains what the monsoon season is and what happens during the different types of monsoon. The author compares the summer monsoons, which are always light and refreshing in the beginning but later on, depressing and violent, to Indian politics and general tranquility, which is what the status quo was for India back in the day. Then, the author moves on to describe Hukum Chand's story, the deputy commissioner. He wakes up in a hurry, as he is late to work, and realizes that the girl who he slept with the previous night was not there. As he wakes up to get ready for work, he is somewhat relieved that the girl is still in the room. He wakes her up and and enjoys breakfast together. Hukum Chand and the girl share a few words together and for the first time, Chand finds out the girls name and her background story. The girls name is Haseena and she is a hermaphrodite dancer/singer from Chundumnugger. After ordering the subinspector to release the robbers, who were arrested the night before, and tell the Muslim Refugee Camp's commander to take the Muslims in Mano Majra, he tells the girl to stay with him. Afterwards, he is once drenched into his deep thoughts. The author moves on to Iqbal and Jugga's situation. At the moment, Iqbal has been in the cell for a week with no form of a bed and he is quite mad at the police force in Mano Majra. After begging Iqbal to teach him English, the subinspector and his men bring Malli, the leader of the dacoity, into a cell in the police station. Iqbal beats Malli against the bars of his cell when Malli begins to tease him. The section ends with Jugga swearing to rape Malli's famiy members.
